An update from a year ago. This time I went on the trail early Sunday morning. There were many "expert" birders who were very willing to share their knowledge. I learned a lot and even saw more than I realized was out there. It's also nice out on the laguna at this time, very quiet with only bird sounds. And... More

We found lots to see mid-day - the para-sailers and net fishermen, boats, herons and egrets, sand pipers, hermit crabs, butterflies, hummingbirds. It was a nice stress-free walk.

Walk with the birds and may be more. Lots of nature to be seen and heard if you take your time. Also a good place to ride your bike along the trails.

Find this trail in front of the Convention Center. We are novices but talked to people along the trail that shared their knowledge. Also a guy pointed out a baby alligator.

This is a free set of two elevated boardwalk trails that are very interesting. The shorter trail runs paralell to the SPI birding centre. We seen a juvenile Great Blue Heron within 3 feet of the trail and a ten to twelve foot alligator sunning itself. There was also a group fo Roseate Spoonbills and many other birds. Back to... More

If we had visited here before experiencing the Port Aransas Nature Preserve, we would probably have been quite content, but we were spoiled by the diversity of wildlife in Port Aransas. The SPI Convention Centre boardwalk was free, and we did enjoy seeing the gulls and terns splashing in the shallow waters. A statuesque great blue heron was probably my... More

The trail starts from the convention center. On this day, they had some sort of flea market of some sort (Sunday afternoon). Not sure if it's always this busy, as we went inside the convention center first to see what's this all about. They were charging $1 pp, so we decided it's not worth it as it's mostly just clothing.... More

We're not avid birders but we do enjoy seeing birds we've never seen before. This boardwalk was a treasure for us. We saw a reddish egret (new!), also common moorhens with their brightly colored beaks & feet. And all the usual birds... herons, egrets, multitudes of different ducks, white & regular pelicans. Great fun & FREE!!!

I take my morning walks there. As a birder it is a great place to find and photograph the wildlife. Quite often you spot more uncommon birds among the trees and marsh grasses. Easy walking and close by all hotels. Parking at the convention center. It is free unlike the birding center next door and has the exact same type... More

The free trail starts next to the convention center near the whaling wall (also worth seeing). You can travel along its boardwalk and see various birds; lizards; fish and if your lucky even an alligator all in their natural setting and habitat. (I must admit that we did see more on the birding and nature center walkways that at times... More
