Ila Loetscher, the "Turtle Lady of South Padre Island",...

Ila Loetscher, the "Turtle Lady of South Padre Island", originally formed our organization to save the Kemp's ridley sea turtle in 1977. Now we are a sea turtle hospital with a mission to rehabilitate and release any injured sea turtles, increase awareness concerning their safety and habitat, and assist with conservation efforts for all sea turtle species. We are funded by donations, grants and gift shop proceeds--

For rehabilitated sea turtle and hatchling release text message notifications, please see our website membership page. See you at Sea Turtle, Inc.!

Nice way to see the sea turtles. Staff very knowledgable. Many of the turtles are rehabbed and returned to the ocean. Fun place to get some pictures

We spend several hours here at the rescue, with our kids (ranging in ages from 6 to 18) learning all about the turtles, rescue efforts, medical and rehab processes, and release. All the staff was friendly and spent as much time with the kids as needed to answer all their questions. There's no entry fee, but they request whatever donation... More

Enjoyed the presentation at the center, as well as learning about all the sea turtles currently in rehab there (and some forever living there now). Interactive, and had opportunity to "Adopt a Hatchling" and support the center in the gift shop. Informed that they will be expanding soon. Lot's of visitors of all ages. Appreciate the work, research, and rehab... More

Okay, so the current digs aren't spectacular . . . but the turtles are! This organization rescues, rehabilitates, and releases sea turtles back into the Gulf. They have quite a few rehabbing turtles in pools/tanks that are up close and easy to see. Some of them are huge - one is around 200 pounds! Seeing the famous Allison is reason... More

We visited Sea Turtle, Inc on our way off the island and are glad we stopped. It was a great way to learn about sea turtles and what this organization does. My kids really enjoyed it. We would visit again and I highly recommend it for kids that are interested in animals.
