We traveled the 6 hours south down to So Padre (flew into Houston) expecting much more. Beaches there are verrrrrrrry modest, narrow and there were people and cars elbow to elbow. We always enjoy any gulf beach anywhere so just writing this review to help others realize what we didn't know. Save yourself the long drive and use the wonderful... More

South Padre beach rivals Daytona for being a great beach to drive or walk on . We only drove a short way as we prefer to walk the beach. This one is excellent for beach fans. The hard packed sand is as good as any we have been on and still feels like sand to your very appreciative feet. Just... More

It was a great time....the beach was not crowded (we went on a weekday) and even had a kite along that the kids had fun flying.

This is accessible by # 5 entrance. There was a 10.00 charge going in but when I came out no one was there charging. I don't recall having a charge here 10 years before hand. I paid and drove the beach a bit. The water was warm but the wind was a lil windy. Nice experience for first timers or... More

We had a great time just driving along the beach and stopping wherever we wished to people watch and take in the lovely ocean views. This was one of the highlights of our South Padre trip.

Find a spot, have a picnic, enjoy this long beautiful beach. We brought our stunt kites, perfect spot, hours of flying. Wish people would clean up their litter, plenty of trash bins along the beach.

Head north of the island where you can drive on the beach. It costs $10 per car. Just watch the tides, when they are high it is not safe for kids running from the car to the beach/water. It is a good place to find more shells. They are currently building a new pavilion with toilets. That will be a... More

Up near the north end of the island you can access the beach with your vehicle ( no charge ) . With your vehicle so handy you can access your stuff if you want fish in the surf, bbq or just enjoy sitting in the sun. Highly recommend 4 wheel drive vehicle to get into the area otherwise you may... More

While at South Padre Island, drive to the north end. See what the isle looked like before all the development at the south end. It's lovely! Amazing sand art formed by the wind and there are usually athletic parachute surfers to entertain. Limited parking and no r.r. Did I mention UNDEVELOPED?
