We stopped here one night while heading to the Panhandle. The campground is heavily treed which is nice. But it is super cramped. We reserved a 25 ft. site. We got the last one. There were still some late arrival envelopes on the window - hopefully not needing 25 ft. sites. Our 20 ft. trailer wheels were at the edge... More

This park was a wonderful surprise. The park campsites are shaded and quiet. The park staff is friendly and helpful. I saw my first armadillo here. There is no sewer hook up at the capsite, but there is electric and wster. There is a dump station as you leave the park. We travel in a 35 foot motorcoach and we... More

Is a wonderful Texas park!! Traveled in a 38' travel trailer. Water and 50amp service, no sewer but does have dump station with nearby bathrooms and showers. The best description I have: spacious, wooded, fairly level asphalt pads, picnic tables (some on the wrong side), and very very quiet. Park Hosts were GREAT!! Friendly checking up on everyone. Clean, Clean... More

We just stopped for an overnight stay in a Camper Van. Park was nice, clean and reasonably quite. I would not recommend the "wagon circle" campground unless you are attending an event or really like lots of neighbors. The tent campground we stayed at was great. Nice trails, though we only had time to walk a couple. You are charged... More

Living in West Texas doesn't afford camping with trees especially the hot summers. Abilene State Park was a wonderful surprise. Most sites had at least partial shade if not total shade. We saw deer, squirrel, and I lost count of the multitude of cardinals. We had water and electricity and using just our analog, we picked up CBS, NBC, ABC,... More

We had a wonderful time. We stayed in a yurt and our kids loved it. Go to the pool early. We went around 4 and couldn't get in because it was full. Luckily, the lake is full and the kids still had a great time. Has a great birding house for bird watching.

When you check on ask for the code to open the gate to the lake entrance. Also, the pool is closed Monday and Tuesday (this is not anywhere on their website). FYI. We stayed in a yurt, it was perfect for 3 people. The little AC unit actually cooled it off in there. The outside space had a picnic table/grill/etc... More

We had a great time swimming at the Abilene State Park. However, I have one complaint. The pool is closed from 3-4 so the "lifeguards can eat lunch." That is the middle of the afternoon so it is a horrible time to close for an hour. First, they could eat in shifts. Or, they could close for just 30 minutes.... More

Having traveled from Arlington myself, met a friend here who was coming from Odessa for the weekend... A first time visit for this seasoned State Park regular. Kudos to friendly SP staff and Camp Host for assisting me in a rewarding experience. From Thursday to Sunday each day had a special accent - hiking, biking, sight seeing and observing wildlife... Not bad for a weekend getaway in this area. No lake or river to see, but if you live in the area or passing through it is worth the stop.
