This Second Empire and Italianate Styling courthouse of local clay brick is masterfully restored. If you are a fan of Texas County Courthouses and of late 1800s and early 1900s architecture, take the time to visit Wharton. You will not be disappointed. Visited this area recently and was amazed at the history of this area. It is full of early Texas history and fascination information of the early settlers and leaders in this coastal area of Texas. It was a beautiful building and a beautiful area.

This beautiful, Second Empire/Italianate style courthouse was built in 1889. It was extensively remodeled and enlarged in the 1930's, covering up the original design. The project to restore the structure began in 2003 and took four years to complete.
