We were lucky enough to score a spot in the walk-in lottery. What an experience! We drove to the parking lot and set out for our hike to The Wave. The photo directions may have been fine but my sense of direction is not. Fortunately we bumped into someone who had been several times before and we followed him to... More

During the summer the in-person lottery is held every day 7 days per week. During the winter they hold the lottery for Saturday, Sunday and Monday at 8:30 Friday morning. Instead of being entered for 10 spots you are competing for 30 spots. More people show up but not THAT many more so your odds are much better. I got... More

I've been here six times and each was amazing. What a delicate and special location for one to see. Get the permit, pay attention while going to and from. Bring lots of water and goodies to eat and be kind to the area. Such a special place.

We visited in dec 2015 as hubby didnt want to drive from monument valley to arches and then back to las vegas. So we thought to stay in Kanab for one more night and try our luck. We got through the lottery, went to the BLM office very early. We were staying at the quality Inn which is basically the side... More

This will probably go down as one of my favorite hikes of all time. Obviously The Wave is the most popular attraction, but the entire scenery of North Coyote Buttes is full of picturesque geological formations. We hiked it after a snowstorm which made footing a little difficult on some of the bedrock and resulted in both of us slipping... More

Better than what I saw online and would come back again. Like most of us, I have seen this place online more than once. But the real experience is better than a thousand words OR photos. I would come back again when possible to explore more spots. Can be very hot in the summer, icy in the winter, and muddy... More

Even if you've been to the wave you'll want to see it again with snow - absolutely spectacular. Yes, it can be hard to get a permit, but I went today - Christmas Day - and, talking with a BLM employee on site, it appears that they were at barely over half-capacity. So don't pass up the wave just because... More

I have been many places, but this is the most beautiful location I've ever visited- certainly the best hike. Others may enjoy the beauty of a beach or alpine setting, but if you love the Southwest, you just can't do better. Just like taking a picture of the Grand Canyon can't compare to standing on its edge, looking at pictures... More

Wind and water over thousands of years created this truly magnificent sight; best of all, it is not overrun by tourists and we hope it stays that way. To hike to The Wave and its surroundings requires a day permit because the number of hikers is limited to 20 per day. We had been trying to get a permit online... More

If you happen to be in Kanab for some days I will truly recommend going to the lottery and apply for a permit to visit "The Wave" its a magical place, unspoiled and inspiring! Otherwise you can apply online many months in advance!! Good luck!!
