The colors of the badlands-type hills are beyond beautiful. I parked at the picnic area; and explored that area. Then walked on a poor dirt road into an area of white-rock hills and saw bighorn sheep. Then walked the main road past the cemetery to the river. By walking you see the varied colors of the hills. For me it... More

We had seen pictures online before and decided we had to find this place. It is an absolutely beautiful and unique place. The colors are so vivid. And the history is very interesting. We plan on visiting here again someday.

the town is gone due to a fire. The rock striations are nice to see but overall this place is disappointing. Keep on driving; do not stop.

There is not much to see at the old Townsite itself. However the drive back the 5 mile or so dirt road offers gorgeous views. Interesting history here.

This was a wonderful surprise that most folks drive past. BLM will give you directions...right along Rte 89. You drive back back about five miles on a dirt road to the end where Paria was located. Nothing there now, just a picnic table. The surrounding views were spectacular. Many western movies and TV shows were filmed along this road.

If you have ever wondered why they designate National Monuments, come visit this place. Old Paria is part of the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument and to this visit here, drive east from downtown Kanab on highway 89 for approximately 31 miles, where you will see a large sign that reads "Paria Townsite" and a smaller sigh that reads "Historical Marker".... Dr. Seuss could have designed this short amazing stretch of road, and that is all it is, in and out, a drive on another planet, truly wonderful, only if road is dry.

Took the drive out to the old townof Pareah that was devastasted by flood back in the 1930s. There was a movie set nearby that was ravaged by fire and never rebuilt. Oh, a graveyard is present with aging, often illegible tombstones and the only thing close to a photo-op.

So why is this even on the list of attractions to consider? It has an interesting history, but is not much now.

The movie set is gone, but the hike to the river to see the ghost town is worth it! Hint: turn right by the river, not left, and you'll get there much quicker :)
