One of the places recommended to us by the Visitor Center (reviewed elsewhere and excellent!), the half hour drive to the Hardware Ranch is a must see during the WINTER months. When we arrived, the visitor center was closed (open Friday-Monday) and there didn't appear...More

Hardware ranch is best in the winter when you have the chance to take a wagon ride through the Elk herd. The visitor center has different displays about the land and wildlife around Cache Valley. The wagon ride is great, but there may be a...More

Good place to see several hundred elk loafing around in the winter. The state feeds this herd to keep them out of nearby towns and thus keeps a lot of them from getting ran over. It's cheap enough and the drive up is nice.

The elk are beautiful but during the winter, they stay so far away to really see them. I hope to have a better experience the next time there.

During the winter, Hardware Ranch puts out bails of hay for wild elk. The ranch also offers wagon rides through the herd of elk (frequently, several hundred, depending on the snow level/ability to find food in the area). It's fascinating to see full-grown and young...More

Yes, you are pulled on a sled and there is a charge. The elk usually don't come in until Christmastime or later depending on the weather so you have to just check on their website.
