This capitol is pretty well open and low-key, as we were able to gain access to both the Senate and House chambers on our self-guided tour. Parking was super easy on the street mid-morning on a Thursday. There is not a gift shop inside, but...More

This is a wonderful FREE attraction to enjoy, especially on a rainy day. The staff is super friendly as well. You can see the State House on your own and don't really need to take a guided tour. It's historic and lovely.

Everyone working there was super friendly and relaxed. The half hour tour was good for learning the history of the state house. The kids loved looking for fossils in the black marble floor tiles.

The golden dome seemed to be under renovation, but the capitol building is pretty nonetheless, and the grounds are meticulously maintained and lovely. It's easy to find and in a delightful part of quaint Montpelier.

This is one the smaller state houses in the nation, but this was a delightful with an intimate feel. The volunteer tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable. If you are a history buff, you will enjoy this visit.

Montpelier is very small and does have the character you'd expect. It's a nice change from many state capitols - it is safe.

Since arriving in Vermont, the news has centered on the stalemate in Vermont state government. Due to this factor, house representatives were in abundance while we toured their beautiful old State House building. As we wandered the halls, Vermont elected officials were very welcoming. One...More

The towns of Waterbury, Stowe and Quechee are nice small towns to visit that are close to Montpelier, if you have a couple or few days to enjoy Vermont.
