My wife and I go to the Arboretum about once a month throughout the year. It's wonderful to see the changes in the trees, bushes during the 12 months. They have a very nice herb garden that identifies each herb plant. It's a great place to hike with well defined trails of varying lengths. The longest walking trail is on... More

Always a joy to walk and discover at the arboretum. Visit often to escape, and find inspiration for sketches. Thank you! Tia

We took advantage of the beautiful weather while visiting and enjoyed a relaxing walk around the property. There are 3-4 different paths to walk along of varying lengths. All are a fairly easy walk in pretty surroundings.

While most of the trees were "past their prime" - the gingko grove was still spectacular! We drove through the property as it was a chilly day - and you could see how beautiful it would be when it was in full bloom. Go for the gingko trees in the fall or the dogwoods in the spring.

Who knew that not far from Winchester, VA there is a UVA run Experimental Farm covering nearly 200 acres. Drive around the entire complex and stop along the way to see an incredible array of wildlife and fauna!

This is a must-see in the area. Very well worth the walk. They have set up a special guided hike where you walk and see some 28 different kinds of conifers from around the world all beautifully located and very mature.

This hidden gem of a park is a lovely peaceful place to walk, jog, or simply take a leisurely drive through. There are four marked walking trails, ranging for 3/4 to 2 miles, as well as a 7.5 mile equestrian trail. Unique features include the largest collection of boxwood varieties in North America and one of the largest collection of... More

Beautiful land with plenty of beautiful gardens and tree groves. The grounds are part of University of Virginia, so if you look close enough you will see college experiments going on (like firefly reactions to light). There are also classes and reading groups that are offered on the Blandy grounds. Definitely worth a day trip!

Everything here among nature is at your own pace. No guides. Nice, quiet spot for couples, families or just plain solo time. Good walking and horseback riding trails. For me, the highlight was the beautiful architecture of the on-site office building, once used supposedly as slave quarters of the Tuleyries Estate nearby (see pic). Pack your picnic basket, and bring... More
