We had no idea of the important part Custis and his relatives played in the history of Virginia. This site is maintained with private funds. The history of this place is phenominal - the views from the beach a beautiful.

If you are interested in history at all, especially American history, you will find this site fascinating. In addition to the connection with George Washington and Robert E. Lee, Arlington was also the de facto capitol of Virginia during Bacon's Rebellion. The location is beautiful,...More

We were down in the Cape Charles area and I talked my girl into driving over to see this site. I'm a historicphile and love stuff like this. But it is exactly what it advertises. A tomb. Nothing more, nothing less. Worth five minutes of...More

This is a few miles off of Rd 13. Not much to see but memorial. You can take pamphlets that explain it's connection to Arlington.

Unfortunately, this area lacks the ground maintenance necessary to keep it looking appealing to the public. The homes here are very nice and it is located on an estuary leading into the Bay.

We had some extra time one evening and decided to visit John Custis' Tomb out of curiosity. The site is located several miles off of Rt. 13, down some rural roads and in a quiet residential area. For a place of such historical significance, it...More

Not fair to give this an average score, but there is practically nothing here. Two very old tombs with weather worn inscriptions (helpfully there are interpretation signs), and four posts which mark the four corners of the Arlington mansion house, which is otherwise a grass...More
