I really enjoyed this personal tour of their private plantation home. I appreciate them opening up their family home to us and taking time out of their time to share their knowledge.

This was our second trip to Westover Plantation. The home is only open for special occasions, but we like to walk the grounds. This time we packed a picnic and sat out by the water. There is a 5$ fee, but even state parks charge now just to drive through. There is a bathroom of sorts, really just a building... More

Lovely home next to Berkeley. We were lucky it was open for a special day, still a residence of the owners. Nice mix of old and new with a unique history with Benedict Arnold, and later with Union troops in the Civil War.

We visited 4 plantations in this area and I can't really pick a favorite. They were all excellent! What a vivid display of history and a fascinating way of life.Westover requires appointments for interior viewing and we did not do this. But the grounds, in my opinion, were the most beautiful of all the plantations we visited and well worth... More

Even though you can't go inside the house, I highly recommend stopping at this estate. The gardens are beautiful, the rest of the grounds are lovely and the house's exterior is worth seeing. This was my friends favorite stop on our tour of the James River Plantations.

Westover is privately owned and not open to the public on an everyday basis. I was lucky enough to see it this year on the Virginia Garden Week Tour. It is occupied by a family and therefore it's not your ordinary run of the mill Plantation tour expectation, loaded with antique furniture and empty spaces. It's a lived in loved... More

Take the time to walk around this property and make sure you leave a small donation! Lot's of history here going back to the Byrd family. Don't forget to walk over to the cemetery past the parking lot.

The inside of the plantation is not open to visitors right now, but we were able to visit the grounds and the cemetery. It sits right on the James River and the place was breathtaking.

After spending several hours at the Berkeley Plantation, as we were leaving, we decided to turn into the next-door Westover Plantation. The Westover was well worth the five-dollar per adult (on the honor system) self-guided grounds tour. Though not as historic as the Berkeley, there is still plenty of history associated with the Westover. The Westover buildings appear to be... More

This plantation was a self guided tour and we were a bit disappointed we were unable to get inside but the grounds were very nice.
