If you're into art this is the place to be for 1st Friday. The exhibits change every month. There is a wide range of artwork on display and you can meet the artists in their studios. It's a local treasure.

We love to explore the studios and the sculpture garden with the kids. The store is a wonderful way to discover new artists and support this community.

The center is a collection of open galleries where you can visit the artists and talk about their work. There is a wonderful mixture of art here. Most of the art in this area is textiles and pottery. It is refreshing to see paintings, mixed media and drawings in such a wide variety of styles.

Wonderful place to view all kinds of art. Studios are open and working artists invite you in to view their work and discuss their projects.

I never had anything to do with art until I moved to Charlottesville. Now, I find myself at McGuffey Art Center on a frequent basis. I like the place so much, that I volunteered to hang exhibits there for LOOK3, Festival of the Photograph, this summer. I have met photographers, sculptors, glass blowers and pottery wizards there. All are Artists... More

As an artist visiting Charlottesville it was great to visit a place like McGuffey to connect with local artists and get an understanding of local arts practice. Every town should have a place for there local artists to develop, create, exhibit and sell their work. The one thing that I was a little disappointed in was the lack of things... More

I go on Sunday's for open studio. We have a model for 4 hours and is very cheap. $5/hour. Good place to paint and meet other artists.

Art shows are friendly and every time I visit I am overwhelmed by the talent. The opportunity to interact with artists in their studios is interesting for budding artists.

What a smart use for an old school building. This can be a hit-or-miss with finding a specific artist, but if you are willing to just wander through the building and find the studios that are open door or have a sign to indicate the studio is open than you are in for a lot of fun. And at the... More

I like the idea of this place; artists in their studios working away while welcoming visitors. This is a similar concept to the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, VA, but not nearly as large. When we were there on a Thursday morning, there were about 10 artists working, and no other visitors. It was free, and nice to walk through and... More
