I did the kayak tour and just loved it. Shane, our guide was very helpful with tips on how to paddle and also explained a lot about the local ecology. We made our way up river to see 2 groups of ponies including Riptide, the famous dominate male, son of Surfer Dude... and his herd. It was an amazing site!

The boat tour was a highlight of my family's trip to the island. I learned a lot from the guide and it was so relaxing. It helped me appreciate how special Assateague truly is.

I booked this cruise for us and we waited by the large covered boat with the sign on it for this company. This was not the boat we eventually boarded. They probably use the big boat during the summer and for the pony cruise, but if you go off-season as we did in October, you get the little pontoon boat... More

Although the captain and skipper were very nice and they gave a good history lesson about the ponies and the area, it was very disappointing and i feel robbed. the pictures on their website and facebook page show the boat up close and personal to the ponies. this was not the case when i went on the boat. the boat... I did both the boat tour and the kayak trip, and loved both. The kayak trip was absolutely wonderful. Shane (the guide) was kind and helpful, persuaded me to bring my camera, and even loaned me a dry bag. I was so glad--the photos I got are awesome. We got up so close a pony was nudging my boat. Such... More

Perfect day! Shane was an excellent guide who was supportive and knowledgable. He brought us to within touching distance of a herd, but Riptide was not having it happen :)

I booked a 2 1/2 hour kayaking tour to see the wild ponies. It took about 20 minutes of driving around and asking directions before we found our guide on a public boat ramp. There is no office, no boat slip, no pier, and the only communications were by cell phone. Our tour lasted an hour and 40 minutes and... More

Gail, our tour guide, was absolutely hysterical. Generally, if you're stuck on a boat for nearly two hours, you may want to jump off by the end. Gail was so informative and gave so much great information about the history of the island and the attractions. We saw a zillion dolphins and one herd of horses. I didn't bring binoculars... More

We went with Assateague Explorer for the 2016 Pony Swim on Wednesday, the return pony swim on Friday and a Sunset Cruise on Monday. The crew was knowledgeable of the area and we learned a lot. As we are talking about wild animals and the predictability of where they can be seen at any one given time and the ponies... More

We saw a few birds and a herd of horses that was very difficult to see because binoculars were needed. It was like trying to view horses against the Colorado Rocky Mountains. We did see one dolphin that jumped out of the water by our boat. The tour guide was very knowledgeable but you really don't get to see much... More
