We camped here the second week of May. It was a little chilly, but very, very nice. Because it was before the summer season starts, we were one of just a few campers. We stayed directly on the lake which was awesome! This area is a nature lover's paradise with fishing, hiking, biking, birding, etc. Keep in mind that everything... More

It take a bit of driving on back roads to get to the Bolar Mountain campground and beach at the North End of Lake MooMaw which was created by the Gathright dam at the South End of the lake. It is accessible by driving 8 miles on Rt 600 from U.S. Rt. 39. The lake has three campgrounds, a beach... More

Beautiful mountain lake about 30-min drive through country side from Hot Springs, VA where we were staying. We got to the beach at 11.30 on a Friday in August and were very surprised to be absolutely alone the whole time till about 2 pm when we left. We just heard a couple cars with boats on the other side with... More

Lots of great sites for camping. Would be better if the local towns were a bit closer. Very secluded. There is a beach and several boat ramps.

This lake is gorgeous and worth the drive. Camp grounds, hiking trails galore, and plenty of access places make this an awesome destination. We're SUPers, and even though there are jet skis on the lake, everyone was polite and wonderful. The beaches are sweet, and the big bath houses are awesome.

Absolutely lovely view on this lake. The only setback is that literally there is dog poop almost everywhere you step on the sand. It was hard to find a vast spot to sit on without dog poop, very blekh. Other than that, very nice. We collected some very pretty rocks too.

Loved the beauty and trip, great little beach area and boat ramp. It is a bit of a drive but the scenery is well worth the drive. Would recommend to everyone.

Not too easy to get to but worth the drive. Remember you are in the mountains so getting anywhere normally requires plenty of twists and turns and this is no exception. Once there, the view is quite pretty especially in the fall. I would imagine in the summer this would be a great place to swim and picnic. Great for... More

Army Corps of Engineers flood control project. This lake is absolutely gorgeous. We have lived nearby for almost 32 years. Have sailed, fished, kayaked, powerboated, stargazed, canoed, camped, hiked, biked and picknicked. Great views, awesome sunsets.... if you want to see a sunrise, you have to hike to the other side of the lake which is a far piece in... More
