Free - the most extensive collection of firearms I have ever seen. From the earliest to present day weapons. Many historical pieces. Well worth a visit.

This was our first stop when our plane landed in DC. The museum is free, but donations are welcome. You can tour it on your own, or join the daily guided tour. People were friendly, and there are cool items in the gift shop. I...More

I am not really a gun person but my son is so I decided to stop when we were in the area. What a great museum! Located on the ground level of the NRA headquarters, the museum is small but very well laid out. The...More

You can spend a lot more than one day viewing the exhibits. I am no longer a member because of their politics but the amount of detail paid to each of the exhibits teaches you aboutories the weapons' characteristics as well as their histories

If you are interest in guns and gun history this is fantastic place to visit. The amount of weapons and interesting stories behind some of them are a wonderful (and free) learning experience. Plan on spend a couple hours to really see everything.

Much bigger than we expected and more fun/informative than I would have thought. So much history here. Favorite galleries were the steampunk gallery and the Hollywood gallery, where they have the actual firearms used in 120 different Hollywood films. Great place!

I live in the UK and would love to visit the museum. Are there possibilities to shoot in the area as well? What else is there to do in the area to make say a weeks trip from the UK more attractive to my non shooting wife?

Yes, you may open carry in the museum. You may also conceal carry in the museum as long as it is legal for you to do so in the state of Virginia.
