Wine and BBQ fundraiser

My husband and I enjoyed the scenery and company at the fundraiser. The grounds are beautiful! There is a sign for the river, unsure if the access will be open.

Excellent historical background materials at visitor center. The welcome lady will delight you with multiple ghost stories. The grounds at Rosewell Mansion are majestic in a natural, undeveloped way. The ruins are evocative, and well worth spending time considering "Sic Transit Magnum Mundi." - "thus passes the great things/people of this world."

Add another magnificent ruins to our list that begins with Windsor in Mississippi. Rosewell, located on the York River in Gloucester County, Virginia, was for more than 100 years the home of a branch of the Page family, one of the First Families of Virginia. Built in 1725, the Flemish bond brick mansion was one of the most elaborate homes... More

I grew up in Gloucester County; when I lived here, Roswell was covered in vines and was THE site for a romantic in-car interlude with one's BF/GF. Now, due to the energy and money from a restoration group, Roswell is a full-on tourist attraction. According to the most excellent docent, the place receives 500 visitors a month. It's little hard... More

My wife and I arrived five minutes before the visitor's center closed but the woman at the reception desk was extremely pleasant and appeared to love what the area was all about. She took time to show us a brief video and encouraged us to take our time to review the small museum area. We then took the short drive... More

Our guide, Katrina was fantastic. She was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Our brief tour began with a introduction to Rosewell history and a short video. The small fee of $4 per person was extremely reasonable. Then our family drove directly to the ruins. They were beautiful. We took some amazing photos as well.

Old home site of two time Governor of Virginia, Thomas Page.... The ruins are pretty cool looking... This overlooks the York river... The visitor center has some very interesting facts about the page family and the house.. The volunteer working at the center was a bit long winded, but obviously liked his job and knew the history .. This house... More

When you go to the visitors center, you can watch a video about Rosewell. How it came to be and the changes it went through over the years. The documentation in the center tells a story of the affluent Era where this dwelling began and how each new owner made Rosewell their own with changes to the architecture of the... More

The visitors center offers a little video of the history of this house. You can drive out and walk around the grounds. Also near the river

I by chance came across the Ruins I believe in a Gloucester brochure I picked up at the hotel. I love history and things like this so I added it to our list. It was off the beaten path but I love those type of things. When you get back there you have to stop at the visitor center first... More
