The Commonwealth is proud to call the Virginia Quilt Museum its official quilt museum. Nestled in the heart of Harrisonburg's downtown historic district, the Museum is considered a resource center for the study of quilts and their place in the cultural lives of Virginians. The Museum offers rotating exhibits of antique and contemporary quilts from its collection, other institutions, and private collections. Additionally, the Museum works to further its educational mission by hosting workshops and lectures.

Probably more for your quiltmakers but for a small fee it was quite interesting for almost anyone. Stories behind the quilts, both historic and personal, made the exhibits.

I accidentally stumbled upon this museum looking for something to do in Staunton. We were traveling via motorcycle from Florida to Maryland and had stopped for the night in Wytheville, VA. Thinking we were going to Staunton we ended up in Harrisonburg because I am...More

The staff was so friendly and gave us a historical "tour" of the home and quilts. They were so excited to have non-quilters there that they told us all about their hobby, which we enjoyed hearing about. I felt like my admission there was a...More

They have a great deal of information and variety of completed quilts to view. The staff although small is very helpful and friendly. We found plenty of parking in the area. They allow limited photography of quilts

We arrived just after closing, but the staff re-opened and let us see the special exhibit. Staff was awesome and it is well worth a stop!

Beautiful display, friendly staff. It's small, but offers a nice mix of historic quilts and newer ones as well. The preservation of History is important even if not always exciting. There's lovely bakery and cafe across from the Museum and the entire area is wonderful...More

I think it's only for people who really are into quilting. Very small and the $7 paid are more a donation because there's really not much to see!

The rotating displays have been fascinating and varied, from historical collections to women's current issues, to quilts commemorating our National Parks. Each visit yields a different experience. Check the website to see the topic of the current collection on show, and when the next arrives.

Walked in here while I was strolling around downtown. It's like a little museum. Really friendly people at the museum.

My wife is a quilter, so I tagged along. Although I can barely sew on a button, I really enjoyed this museum. Quilts are displayed well with good interpretive information about each one. The unusual quilting examples on the second floor are amazing. I left...More
