This park is so nice! It really has something for everyone. Hiking trails, a beach area, paddle boats, canoeing, and picnic areas. You have to pay a toll to get in but it's worth it. It helps pay for upkeep on the park. And they...More

We booked the smallest CCC cabin for three nights but ended up leaving a day early as a strong storm was moving in and threatening to drop accumulating snow. The cabin was very comfortable for the two of us and our two Great Pyrenees dogs....More

I stayed at Hungry Mother for the first leg of my trip to hike, take in the lake views and get a little rest before continuing to my final destination. Camp Burson was close to town and easy to get to. On my return trip...More

I knew people who went here all the time growing up. I'm so disappointed I haven't been until now! This is probably the nicest state park I've ever been to. Spacious camping spots, we were in Creekside by the creek. Spotless bathrooms, spacious showers with...More

Located in Marion Virginia about an hour past Abington, this place is excellent. Several hiking trails. We took the one that goes around the entire lake. There is also a beach area for swimming, a museum and gift shop, playground for the kids. The only...More

We stayed in one of the yurts and it was SO COOL! The bath houses were incredibly clean and well maintained. Trails are all well maintained. The lake was lovely. Would definitely go again!

We arrived expecting to camp in a forested area with perhaps a view of the lake. We were assigned a spot in a parking lot because the more desirable area was closed (not full). We were also charged a reservation fee on top of the...More

Spent a couple nights in a cabin in the park. Charming, clean, and creaky hardwood floors. Circa 1936, they are well maintained. Check in at 4:00 p.m. which is terrible; but we were early (2:30) and they let us in, which was deeply appreciated. Dixie...More

Hungry Mother was lovely! It was our first visit and hopefully not our last. We visited on a moderately cold day in March. The park was much larger than expected. We hiked the trail circling the lake. It was a beautiful and relaxing hike. I'm...More

What a wonderful state park in Virginia. It is one of the original 6 Virginia State Parks opening in the 1930's and has grown in popularity ever since. There is so much to do there and camping/cabin options for overnight stays. A great lake with...More
