This church dates back to the time of General George Washington and is on the National Registry of Historical Places. It is an Episcopal church with the old "fenced in" pews originally assigned to those who paid for them. George and Martha had a pew close to the front of the church. Free tours given by volunteers are available most... More

If you're in the area, it's worth your time to visit this historic church. I'm always amazed when I consider that George Washington, a vestry member, and his family, traveled by horse/ buggy from the Mt. Vernon estate, even in snow, to regularly attend services here. The current congregation works hard to maintain the historical architecture, decor, and spatial arrangement... More

It's amazing to see something so iconic right before your very eyes. The fact that George Washington, one of our founding fathers, worshipped at this church is so awe inspiring. When you're at Mount Vernon, make sure you get the audio tour, because there are so many tidbits of information about this church that are on that tour that aren't... More

I lived in Ft Belvoir once, so I knew the church's history. Many do not. But I think it a beautiful "must" for Colonial fans. Mt Vernon is only 2 miles away, so this Episcopal Church (still active) was his home church. He and his family had 2 pew boxes there (name on them) and he was a vestryman. Other... More

An active Episcopal church with history back to our founding fathers. Unique seating and church configuration . Hosts a fall market for young and old and a spring flea market. Stop in and take look around and walk the grounds. Right off route 1 with plenty of parking.

Excellent side trip. Very historic. We were treated to a Lite Supper that was included in our trip. Delightful shop also. Wish we had more time to spend there so many interesting details. Can photograph anything in church. Delightful place to see.

Historic Church, friendly folks, interesting sermon. It's a very unusual physical set-up with boxes instead of pews. The after-service coffee time allows for getting to know one another. A very tight-knit group & if you're looking for an Episcopal Church in the Northern Virginia area, give this one a look......

The Pohick church has the old fashioned square church pews. The church has early parishners of George Washington, Madison, mason and other nation founders. The pews have brass plates as to which families had paid for their pews. They also have a fair on the church grounds on last Saturday of October with locally made apple butter and other home... I love the old churches, and this church did not disappoint me. It is small, but the architecture is wonderful.

Was driving in the area and happened to come across this church and cemetery. The church was built in the 1700's and their are gravestones from that time period as well. The cemetery was kept up well and had a very serene feeling underneath the big trees. The church pews were arranged in little wooden boxes that sat about 6... More
