The sanctuary of "Sebâa des Ouled Ben Zmirou" is a hight place of pirgimage of Jews from Morocco and other countries, which extends over 8,000 square meters. The set includes an ancient door, a synagogue and a space gathering the 7 saints. In this space, 27 memorials have been placed. Each representing a Jewish saint. The sanctuary also houses a party hall with a capacity of 1,000 places with kitchen, a garden and parking. The land surrounding the tomb is dotted with rocks. The Jews whitewash them and burn candles there. Pilgrims believe that in the past this place served as a cemetery. In the Judaic tradition, the tomb of Ouled Ben Zmirou contains the remains of Abraham, in addition to his brothers and his sons. Abraham Ben Zmirou (Ibn Zimra), Grand Rabbi of Safi, physician, philosopher and poet of the 15th century, is believed to have originated in the Iberian Peninsula. He escaped to Morocco during the 15th century Inquisition. After living in Fez in 1499, he moved to Safi. With his extensive knowledge of Arabic literature and laws, poetry and calligraphy Abraham would quickly have gained notoriety among Jewish and Muslim populations. As a diplomat, Abraham Ben Zmirou was in charge of supervising payment to the Portuguese troops posted in Safi and Azemmour. His brother Aharon presided in person over the signature of the peace and commercial treaties between the Wattasid Sharifs and the King of Portugal. A religious event- Hillula - rich in cultural activities takes place every year, in August, in memory of this saint.
