Marqueyssac is one of the most beautiful romantic gardens of

France and today the most visited garden in Perigord.

Listed as a national historical monument thanks to its 54 acres

park, Marqueyssac's gardens offer more than 6 kilometres of

shaded paths in a maze of 150 000 hand-pruned boxwoods.

From the belvedere, at 130 meters above the Dordogne river,

you will see the most spectacular panorama in Perigord. This is

the testimony of a rich bygone history and a gorgeous natural

heritage. It's also an exceptionnal Dordogne valley point of view,

you will see its most beautiful villages : Domme, Castelnaud,

Beynac, Fayrac, La Roque-Gageac and its castles.

We did not have any particular expectations and we were blown away by this place. Beautiful gardens, excellent walk around the cliff tops, fun stuff to do along the way, spectacular views. Excellent cafe, also with stunning views. Really a gem and highly recommend as a top place to visit. A highlight of our week in the area.

This garden offers fantastic panoramic views to the whole area especially to the famous cave where people used to just dig into the cave and live there. The plants in the whole garden are well-taken care of. You may also visit the proud peacock overlooking the nice view from a high point. You have to climb a bit during the... More

This was one of the highlights of our two week visit to the Perigord Noir. The gardens on a promontory, perched high above the Dordogne River, afford fabulous views in almost all directions. We joined the only daily English tour at 12.00 noon and learnt how the vision and forethought of its owner has created a wonderful garden, whose main... More

If you are touring this part of the Dordogne you must not miss this. The gardens of box trees in their thousands is perfectly maintained and glorious to admire. But more is the walks through the property which enable the most sensational views of the valley, the river and castles nearby. Their cafe can also be recommended for its high... More

A great place for a quiet stroll, or to bring children and dogs (on leads!). Fun aerial net walkways etc for the children. Beautiful topiary for the grown-ups. An outdoor cafe with great views. Delicious ice cream. Well worth a visit

The garden is famous for its topiary and its views across the Dordogne river. We visited on a Monday in mid March which had advantages and disadvantages. The main advantage was that there were hardly any other visitors there so we were able to wander in peace. Another was that the views over the Dordogne were not interrupted by caravan... More

The gardens are beautiful to explore, however we enjoyed the experience of the place and the views of the surrounding area even more. Our timing was not ideal being very early Spring and late in the day but we walked most of the garden and enjoyed the views, the birds and beautiful garden design. There is more to explore but... One of the most fantastic gardens to visit. The topiary is striking as is the contrast with the beautiful forest. Superb views

We decided to go to the Jardins de Marqueyssac even though the sun was quickly dropping in the early winter's evening. The lady at reception was very helpful and suggested a route that was feasible in just over an hour which was all that was left before close. The layout and content of the gardens and treed areas was exceptional... More
