The fortifications supporting Dam No. One are among the best preserved of any from the Civil War (officially termed by the U.S. Army the War of the Rebellion). The easiest way to get to this site is from the Newport News Park. The walking trail was marked and easy to follow, Well preserved fortifications from the battle and a very peaceful environment, considering what took place here. Worth finding when in the area.

Well preserved fortifications - Hidden jewel. Well marked trails - good signs - quiet - Lots of deer.
