Chocolate shop and Ice-cream parlour "Atelier delle Dolcezze" The chocolate shop is located in the best known square of the town of Ischia, just a few steps from the famous Bar Calise. The 19th century walls now hosting a place where both eyes and palate find inspiration, were in the past a home to the De Angelis family and artists Luigi, Federico and Giovanni De Angelis, attended by outstanding figures such as Pierpaolo Pasolini, Eugenio Montale, Hans Purrmann, Giuliano Vangi, Vittorio Sgarbi and many others. It is for this reason that today the rooms hosting the ice-cream parlour are partly converted into an art gallery, with the stated purpose of reviving the artistic spirit and talent that once made this house a meeting place for cultural circles. All this is now matched with a different kind of art, the high art of confectionery, with the selling of "Maglio 1875" chocolate and the production of an entirely home-made ice-cream, produced only with the freshest milk and cream according to the ancient Maglio recipe. Particularly rich is the choice of chocolate blends: from "Papuasia" with 36% of cocoa, to "Tingo Maria" (65%) to "Caracas" (100%). Definitely worth a try are also the tastes: "Almond Milk", "Giffoni Hazelnut", "Bronte Pistachio" and "Cream of Noble Milk", a specialty made with organic milk (Slow Food presidium) from cows of the Apennine mountains in the Benevento area. Turning back to chocolate, be surprised by the flavour of our hot chocolate, the "nudes", or a specialty of the house, namely fruits of the South covered with 60% dark chocolate. Orange stripes, figs with roasted almonds and lemon peel, sour cherries, cherries with almond paste, dates with a paste made with Bronte pistachio, clementines, crunchy mix with "faldacchiera" cream... all delicious! Starting with this year, along with these delicacies you can now find the fragrances of the historical French candle makers "Cire Trudon 1643", a manufacturer in the past entrusted with the production of candles for the Palace of Versailles. Thanks to the Maglio quality label boasting a history of 140 years, the chocolate shop "Atelier Delle Dolcezze" today becomes a place where (along with other products such as high-quality pottery, tea, coffee, biscuits, candies, candy-coated almonds and liqueurs) it is possible to taste the best confectionery tradition on the island - and much more!

In March 2017 there was no ice cream. The chocolade bonbons are good but not excelent. I rate it as good average!

By far the best gelato I had during my week stay on the island. The man that served me was so friendly and left us to enjoy the ice cream quietly. A lovely little find but definitely something that MUST be tried whilst on Ischia. Really good value too in comparison to the other places I tried.

Great little gelato and chocolate shop in Ischia. Had the coffee and gianduja gelati, both very tasty and among the best I've ever had.

Superb and eclectic gelato (try the milk cream with seaweed!!), friendly service. They also carry a complete line of the Italian master chocolatier Maglio and selected wines and spirits. And if that is not enough they invest in frequent and original art shows. Each artist is asked to design a combination of flavors to express themselves. Consider it a spa... More

This is more than just an ice cream (gelato) shop. It's an experience. if you stay late enough (it's open ;till after midnight), you are likely to find people dancing. The ice cream is amazing. All made on site with professional equipment. It's both traditional and modern, with original flavours that reflect both the tradition and optimism of the future.... More

This place is absolutely marvelous. The three of us shared various tastes of ice cream. Seaweed, coffee (no Sugar added and a very pure coffee taste), chocolate, lemon, stracciatella. Very pure, ice cream in it's Original form. Not that you have to drink something after eating the icecream that can be soooo sweat of toooo much Sugar added. Very friendly... More

Do yourself a favor and make a stop at this little cioccolateria to see, taste and enjoy some very fine sweets and gelato. The woman who worked there the night we followed our noses into this chocolate heaven was very helpful and explained the various (and there are a lot) kinds of chocolate. There are gift boxes and candies by... More

What a great discovery tucked away near Ischia Porto!!! Of all the things I found while walking around the cobbled streets, this is definitely one of my favorites. It's not just a chocolate shop and it's not just an ice cream shop... it's BOTH. Heaven, perhaps?? The front of the store is an elegant boutique that would make even Willy... More

This gelato/up-scale chocolate shop was an oasis on a very hot, August day. The product is more like North American ice cream than gelato, but it was very good. We were happy with the ice cream and it was less expensive than we expected. There were a lot of poorer quality gelato shops on Ischia, but this ice cream was... More
