About
A soap museum dedicated to the history and science of soap. The museum is an old, restored 19th century building with high ceilings and original stonework. On display, are two old presses and other agricultural tools, typical of South West Sicily. The inspiration to open a soap museum, comes from our experience in making and producing soap and natural cosmetics. We would like to share our passion and knowledge about the history, science and technicalities of soap making, to eveyone interested in learning more about this essential product, which started to be produced in 2800 B.C. All the visits to the museum are guided tours, and at the end of your visit you will have the chance to try our products. We are open ONLY with a reservation, and you may book a tour online or by calling us.

Soap-Making Experience
Aug 2020
Very interesting experience at the Museum of Soap. Place is very nice surrounded by olive trees. The host was very good and gave a good briefing of the history of soap making. We also had the opportunity to make a little soap, such experience was very nice. Would definitely recommend it.

Fun, Entertaining, and Educational Experience with a True Olive Grower
Oct 2019
I've been on so many tours during my time as a meeting and event planner. I thought this would be just another tour. I was happily mistaken! Alessandro (the owner/operator) of this Olive Farm was amazing. He speaks English very well (he went to university in Australia), and has a real passion for all things related to olives. He has done a great job at restoring a historic building on his property which houses the "soap laboratory" and a museum about the origins of soap, how to make it, etc. We learned how to "taste" olive oil and determine its "notes", and ended the evening with wine and hors d' oeuvres outside his home. We made our own soap which we took home as memories of our experience. This experience was an amazing value, and we learned things that we will keep with us forever. It isn't a "tour".....it's an Experience!

Fantastic!

This place is a must-see in Sicily! Booking in advance is required but Alessandro is really flexible so he provided a tour to us on the same day of our call. The tour was really interesting and funny on the same time for a very reasonable price. Highly recommended!

Very interesting group visit - don't miss it!

We visited this museum as a group of 8 and were enchanted by the authentic artefacts and Alessandro's knowledge and enthusiasm. The ancient history of such an everyday item as Soap made us look at it in a completely different light. As well as the Tour, we had a Tasting of Olive Oil and a pre-arranged Italian Language class. What a wonderful visit in this beautiful countryside setting. We went by minibus from Sciacca and would definitely book next time for a Cooking class. 😀

Fascinating experience

This was a real treat, we rang in advance to book and were met by Alassandro who started his tour in the olive groves itself before moving into the museum. The enthusiasm and knowledge made the experience informative and engaging. Having spent 10days in Sicily this was a highlight. Left with lovely products to use at home. Thank you!

Learn everything about olives and soap
Jul 2018 • Family
Little musuem in the middel of olive trees. Very difficult to find, but the owner was so nice to pick us up nearby. During the visit you can learn how to make soap nowadays but also in ancient times. Just great! Kids can even make their own soap to take home. Really worth a visit!

Who knew soap could be so interesting?

Set on a beautiful organic olive farm, the visit to the museum, while small, was made fascinating by Alessandro's passion for the history and process of soap making. I now know more than I ever expected about soap!

The world and its history from the perspective of soap
Mar 2017 • Solo
So much information, history, and unique artisan soaps from around the world packed in this little stone (an old storage) house in the heart of an olive grove!

As other reviewers have noted, Alessandro is extremely knowledgeable (from the chemistry behind soap to the history) and entertaining. He tied in many events (and turning points) of European history through the development and uses of soap and people's bathing habits.

There is also a collection of artisan soap from around the world, each telling its own story (some may not be found ever again, like the Aleppo soap). And how nice it was to see soap from Taiwan! :)

When I visited there was a new feature being planned (featuring the local famous ceramic work as well) where the visitors can experience "washing with soap" from different historical periods. I look forward to a return visit to try out this new interactive feature!

Definitely worth a visit to see how human history can be told through soap. Do call ahead to make a reservation, and leave extra driving time, not because the museum is far away but because of the limited signage allowed on the road.

Soap with a passion!
Aug 2016 • Friends
In the beautiful countryside outside Sciacca Alessandro has opened a museum and hands-on visit to know all about soap, he transmits his passion and knowledge of all things soapy and we got to make our own customised soap. If you want to do something a little unusual in lovely surroundings then go to visit the Museo del Sapone, he speaks excellent English and is full of stories and tips.
