Loved this charming Sicilian country town. It is very hilly, with narrow streets, many which are too small for driving. Best to park low down and walk around. GPS took us driving up a road that ended with no way to turn around. The nicest...More

As you approach, the town is perched on a hill. It looks fabulous. Once you get there you will find narrow cobbled roads, many are one way and many very narrow. People drive like there is no tomorrow and hurtle everywhere. There are few pedestrian...More

This village appears in most tourist guides and seems a "must see", there are some spectacular buildings and sights, however it is a working village with no real pedestrian zone and small footpaths, and it is inundated with traffic. It has so much potential however...More

This is an amazing (large) collection of mosaics well preserved in an outdoor structure. There are reasonable English descriptions on most displays and it well worth the time. Don't buy the book at the car park ( after being told nothing is in English) as...More

From the period 300-400 BC depicting daily life in an aristocratic Roman hunting villa. Fantastically preserved scenes of daily life and the capture of wild African animals for the Roman circus. Definitely worth a visit--takes 90 minutes. 10 euro entrance fee.

I spent the morning walking through the old town...just wandered around, a lovely way to spend a morning, away from many tourists, it is almost possible to imagine what it was like many centuries ago

Piazza Armerina is a beautifully baroque sculptured city, situated within narrow streets and the most natural peripherals, with mosaic decorations and friendly residents. Take time to walk in its streets to feel the tranquility of the place, spend time within its boundaries to view the...More

A very picturesque hill town with narrow winding streets, helpful locals, baroque buildings etc.... one way system better to park in a suitable place and walk round. We chose to stay outside the centre on the surrounding hills.

We have been privileged to see Roman ruins throughout Western Europe and Great Britain but nothing compares to the beauty of these mosaics. The site is easily navigated in platforms so you can fully view floors. The tiled floors look more like tapestries than floors....More
