Walking into the memorial was like leaving a busy street into a quiet and solemn place. Reading the notes written by individuals in the armed services through many different battles was humbling. It made those conflicts more personal. A beautiful and touching way to remember.

The gates on either side of this memorial were closed and locked so I could only view the memorial over the gate. It looked very neat but I couldn’t see what was on any of metal “sheets.” Very disappointing.

This was part of our 2-hour cruise, museum, and battleship all day trip. My 7 yo grandson was helping read the letters.

History buffs will love this and to see all of the metal of honor winners was fantastic. Remember to go to the second floor of the battleship Wisconsin which is free to the public unlike the battleship tour itself

Very touching, reading the letters sent from former war dead.I had forgotten that this was even here, so we spent the time reading and admiring each and every letter. Remiders of the atrocities of war.

I read all of these letters. Very sobering. Please check the dates on the letters. Date written, vs date of death. Makes you appreciate all that our Servicemembers do for us.

This is a memorial to all those military men and women who departed for wars throughout the years here in Norfolk. Very nicely designed and very memorable. Stand there in silence and read these actual letters that were sent home from those overseas in all...More

Absolutely. It’s open to the public & located outside. There are several Festivals during the Season and I’m not sure how pets would be handled during an Event.

This memorial is in a small corner of parkland in downtown Norfolk with pedestrian paths along the waterfront so I am sure that people walk their pets in this park. However, the "letters from home" are cast in bronze and... More
