Ata Rangi, meaning "dawn sky" or "new beginning" is a small New Zealand winery with a big reputation for serious Pinot Noir. Located at the southern end of the North Island, it is owned and managed by a family trio - Clive Paton, his wife Phyll and his sister Alison - with star winemaker Helen Masters and Vineyard Manager Gerry Rotman. Ata Rangi is well established in 25 international markets and has an enviable reputation as one of the New World's most respected Pinot Noir producers."...the long-serving, dedicated team behind Ata Rangi just go from strength to strength. Their Pinots have always been great and yet, even in a world where the Pinot benchmark gets higher every year, Ata Rangi is better than ever." Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, April 2013

Wakes 10km to raise funds for local school - wine tasting as we went and delicious water melon snacks! Tasting stops staffed by locals and whole event sponsored by local businesses and townsfolk! Weather was perfect and the town Martinborough neat and welcoming.

The first stop of a recent visit to the Martinborough wine region. Don't get your hopes up for a full tour of the vineyards or the cellar - this is really just a straight forward cellar door. Our host was knowledgeable, shared some good info on the wines and the area. We left with a number of bottles.

We tasted 5 different wines, our favourite Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon blanc were our favourites. It is a beautiful estate and glad we visited this winery.

A great beginning to our visit to Martinborough. Ata Rangi offered up samples of a range of their wines and all were very good. The taster was very knowledgeable even though she had only been on the job for a few weeks. The winemakers talent is very evident in the end wines. This by comparing to others later that day.... For a majestic flagship of all of NZ wines, the cellar door is from yesteryear. No pomp, no ceremony. No downlights, no Gyprock, no glass sheeting. Oh, that's right, the wine should speak for itself. And it does. The Pinot Gris is outstanding, the rose delightful, the Chardonnay ok, but the flagship Pinot Noir is what all the fuss is... More

We stumbled onto this quaint little winery during our cycle tour of Martinborough... turned out to be a gem.. Their tasting is simple with a wide variety and their Crimson Pinot Noir is world class !! And Harry the vineyard dog makes the trip totally memorable... Stop by - you won't regret it !!!

We went to Atarangi today as part of a tour of 4 wineries. The hostess (if that's the right term for the person on the cellar door telling us about the wine) was personable and knowledgable and pleasant to chat with whilst we did our tasting. Their rose was my favourite. The overall vineyard setting was nice but the tasting... More

Visited this winery on recommendation while staying in Martinborough for a few days. We both tasted about 5 wines each. Very nice wines. We purchased a bottle of Pinot Gris (our favourite of those we tasted), accordingly there was no charge for the tasting. It was a weekday and we stayed for a half an hour or so chatting to... More

Ata Rangi is a beautiful vineyard. The garden setting is lovely and cellar door is small but welcoming. Our host managed several couples that arrived about 5 minutes apart very well. Large groups need to book ahead to make arrangements to visit. Gorgeous but expensive wines. Well worth the visit though.

We did a tandem bike wine tour on a Wednesday and were pleased to find this cellar door open. The wine tasting featured a good selection of wines and it was hard to choose which one to purchase. The grounds were beautiful and the staff friendly and informative.
