Nice mountain hike

A relatively easy mountain climb but very enjoyable. Maps are provided at the bottom of the mountain. One problem it's not easy to find.

...than you think. I like to be honest on these reviews. So here it is. I read (no pun intended) several different kinds of reviews on this hike, here and elsewhere. My kids and I are experienced hikers so I may have overlooked some reviews that said it is harder than you think. So the day we get there (and... More

Overcast and cool, but a great hike! Traveled two trails, combined, and it took about 3 hours! FUN! There was a great map available at the parking area. Directions to the site, were spot on! Well maintained trail and parking area!

You'll forget you're basically in a subdivision when you hike this trail! Just drive up Crumpacker to the gate, and you're off. This trail is about 6 miles or so if you do the entire loop. Be sure to visit Buzzard Rock for a view of the airport and more. Take water and hiking sticks. Follow the CCC trail after... More

Long, narrow, winding, steep road to get to top. Made me very nervous to be on. Once at top, however, views were lovely. Glad I went. Trip down was steep and winding, but tolerable.

Thought we were going for an easier hike than what we ended up with but it was a good workout nonetheless.

This isn't my favorite hike in the Roanoke Valley but it's a great workout to the top with a nice view. The parking lot is small and is located in a residential area, so be careful when you drive, you pass a lot people's homes.

Nice easy hike with a few options to extend your walk. One good view at Buzzard's Roost. Maps at the start. Little hard to find. The entrance looks like a driveway between two houses. Trails are in good shape last I went.

I've done the Buzzards Rock hike several times, it's a nice moderate hike, not many views on the way up but a pretty decent one at the end. Like it because it's so close to town and can be done in a relatively short amount of time and at the last minute.

Hiked all the trails. Nice preserve right in the middle of the city. The preserve trails are well kept on the end near the outlook, not so much on the other end. The outlook is fine, but nothing special--you look down on the tops of factories and warehouses.
