The Blackfriars Playhouse is the world's only re-creation of Shakespeare's indoor theatre. "Stunning", says Frommer's. Located in historic downtown Staunton, VA, this 300-seat Renaissance theatre offers productions of Shakespeare and classic plays year round that the Washington Post says are "shamelessly entertaining" and the Boston Globe says are "phenomenal...bursting with energy”.

We enjoyed our evening at the theatre. Live music and singing by the actors before the show and during the intermission show this group is muti talented. We saw The Two Men of Verona for the first time. The actors were enthusiastic and animated even though it was far from a full house. Very enjoyable. We are looking forward to... More

Went to a show here while visiting Charlottesville for a conference. Spent an afternoon in Staunton. This was our favorite activity during our trip. What talent in that group! We saw Our Town, and it was done beautifully. The musical talent is unbelievable too. Do yourself a favor and go to one of these productions if you are in the... More

We had wanted to visit here for a long time so we added it on to our recent DC trip and Monticello. Truly enjoyable, fun, entertaining. Superb actors!! We saw Two Gentlemen of Verona and Romeo and Juliet, both were outstanding productions. Highly recommend!

This is a replica of the Globe Theatre. They will allow you to switch seats to get closer prior to the start of the play so buy the cheap seats. Although there are only 300 seats, the theatre on the Friday night we were there was not very crowded. They also have "pay what you want" nights. I wish we... More

This was a fun, unique experience. When I bought the ticket online, I thought it seemed expensive. But they allow you to move to any empty seat. What made it was the enthusiasm of the cast. They all participated in the music before and during intermission. Plus the acting was great. Don't miss this! P.s. Parking was only a dollar... More

One of the main reasons we go to Staunton, VA is the American Shakespeare Center. Yes we enjoy the Restaurants and the little town feel, but the ASC is our most enjoyable entertainment. I am always amazed at the musical ability and talent before the play even starts! These thespians are well rounded and multi-talented. We sang along to some... More
