The museum is nice; not only do they give a background of the Lee Clan since several generations lived here, but they talk about the restoration process as well. It was restored in the early 1900's but they are in the process of restoring the mansion room by room which is cool (you can catch this online too). I've toured... More

This is a huge property that is well maintained. The guide was great with a great sense of humor. She brought the property to life.

A very interesting tour through the Lee’s Plantation. Very informative and interesting. Different parts of the mansion were restored to different eras. Guide was great.

It was OK lots of history there. We enjoyed walking around the estate. We did the tour of the house and our guide was very nice but kept getting very confused on which rooms she had shown us. She tried to end the tour without showing us one side of the house. Other than that it was a beautiful estate.... More

OK, this is not Versailles, or Biltmore House, or the Hearst Mansion folks. And they do charge a $12 adult entry fee which I believe has been calibrated to cover necessary costs by the private group that runs the very large (1900 acre) property. But if you are interested in the Lee family and historical sites in N Virginia then... More

We went there from Fredericksburg. While we enjoyed our visit, it took an hour each way and I guess we expected more. This is the childhood home of Lee. It was an interesting home and tour, and there are out buildings as well. Our visit was about an hour. If you are in the area, then definitely worth a visit.

Must do if you're in the Virginia area and doing some wine touring as we were to break it up. We had a lovely host who showed us around the place and explained the buildings and history. The grounds are gorgeous, bring a picnic and some wine! We are lucky to have a beautiful spring day!

This beautiful and well organized site receives far less attention than it should. Stratford is the historical home of the Lee family, signers of the Declaration of independence and, later, Robert E. Lee. This is not a paean to the Civil War--far more than that. The Lees were the Koch brothers of their day, and amassed a fortune in shipping... More

Not to be missed. Great for families with young children, too. House, grounds, waterfront, and farm all worth the visit.
