We incorporated our visit to the First Landing with our visit to the Cape Henry lighthouse. Easily accessible to both with a short walk to the beach and statues/plaques. Please make sure to read the signs and stay off the rocks and the Jetties.

We usually go to First Landing when we want a quieter beach day. This is also a great place to bike and hike. We highly recommend taking one of the park ranger guided tours. We have taken two nighttime tours and thoroughly enjoyed both!

The other reviewers have already covered the high recreational value of this park: The beach is great for swimming and having a little fun with catching crabs. The waves are gentle, and nobody is going to get sucked out to the dangerous seas beyond. The...More

Actually we do have tent sites that are reserved by site. And we do not restrict RV sites to RVs only. We reserve by the size of the sites. This reviewer may be referring to them as RV because they have electric and water hookups...More

We have gone to First Landing State Park many times over the years. The past couple times we have opted for their camping experience and it really is one of the best camp grounds! There is plenty of space between sites, there are multiple bathrooms...More

Spent a lovely afternoon here, sitting and talking on the beach and soaking in the water. We were able to walk out quite a ways, and the water was very gentle. Great place for kids. Not super crowded on a Friday. Very relaxing. Nice camp...More

Rented bikes and rode there through back bay refuge. Very pretty scenery and a well equipped visitor center. We stopped and got information from a volunteer on nice trails to visit. Weather was cool but it started to rain so we didn't go all the...More

We hopped on the 35 bus from central VB to visit here and sample the natural area to the north. With a rustic boardwalk leading on to the beach this is ideal for families to enjoy and relax with a large expanse of beach to...More

My husband and I enjoy First Landing trails for hiking. We love nature and the trails are easy to navigate. Sometimes we bring our dog with us, and she loves the park as well. One of the trails lead to a beautiful kinda hidden beach....More

I did not go crabbing. I would suggest calling the park office to find out any restrictions as there are swimmers and paddleboarders, etc.

The parking lot (for non towing vehicles) is within sight of the beach. If you park right at the beginning of the walkway to the beach, it's about 15 feet from closest parking spot on a sand path to the beach and another 20... More

Just a note about dogs: Between Memorial Day and Labor Day they can only be on the beach before 10 a.m. and after 6 p.m. and have to be on a leash. The leash part is pretty lax as long as they are under control.
