This is a delightful state park with plenty of opportunity for wandering and observing nature. There are a variety of trails for hiking, biking or horseback riding. You'll find various difficulty levels; including an easy half mile trail, a moderate trail of two miles and a difficult one that's a mile and a half (just to name a few). There... More

This was very interesting to see how the woods, marsh, land, river and seaway all interconnect. The drive was lovely, also would have been beautiful on a bike.

We love near York River SP, and can't say enough great things about this place. It's a hidden gem for those who want to spend a little time in nature. There are miles of trails, including trails for people with horses. We love to bring our dogs. They especially love going down to the beach. If hiking isn't your style,... More

Lots of trails to choose from whether you're hiking, biking or on horseback. All well marked and maintained. We walked the backbone, majestic oak, and powhatan forks trails on a sunday morning. Favorite bit was watching a snail cross our path. :)

My husband and two teenage kids went to York Park to do a little hiking and nature time. The nature center was great, and we spent hours fossil hunting on the lovely little beach (bring bug spray for the deer flies, though!). We meandered back along some wide open trails, saw the historic home site, checked out the labyrinth, and... More

York River State Park is known for its rare and delicate estuarine environment, where freshwater and saltwater meet to create a rich habitat for marine and plant life. Located 11 miles west of Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia, near the unincorporated town of Croaker in James City County, Virginia, on the south bank of the York River about 10 miles downstream from... We took the 2-3 mile Taskinas Creek Trail that meandered around and up and down through a beautiful woodland with lookouts along the way out onto the grassy wetlands. A good family small adventure.

My family and I have been here many times and seems to discover something new each time. The first time we came we took part in a very informative class about fossils and the local landscape. Then we followed the Ranger down to Fossil Beach to search for fossils from "yesteryear". You are guaranteed to find something each time as... More

When the temperature jumps to 70 in February there is no great place to be than York River State Park. Spend time walking and driving thru the park and enjoy the sun and warm.

We spent a chilly afternoon exploring this great park. It is well maintained and just a great place. We hiked a trail that was the perfect length with lots of ups and downs. There were look-out areas from which you could look out at the marsh land that was between the trail and the actual river. The trail was cleared... More
