Wow--you really can't get better close up and far away vistas than this almost anywhere in the world. Travel down from the Heather Meadows visitor center in an alpine wonderland of lakelets and heather and blueberries to two larger lakelets. Then up over the pass to the chain lakes below. An incredible day! Don't bring you dog.

My husband and I visited from Minnesota in August 2016. The full 6-7 mile hike was challenging for us but so worth it. We brought hiking poles and plenty of water. The was snow that was melting along some parts of the hike, but it was about 70 degrees. There were horseflies that were terrible which surprised me. Other reviews... More

Take a drive, but stop often to enjoy the views. The mountains are fantastic. Granted, they are not as tall as Mt Rainier, but they are very impressive for sure. The fall foliage was a nice plus for us, but my guess is that any time is a great time for viewing in this area.

This was a complete surprise for me. I headed out for a hike on Mount Baker to get some fresh air and clear my head. This trail was like a blaze of color with amazing views,

Hiked this trail yesterday (oct 2nd). Beautiful fall colors (yellow, orange, red...) everywhere. Great views of Baker and Shukasan. I recommand on parking at Austin Pass (next parking after overflow parking of wild good trail), taking the wild goose trail and joining Artist Point and start the loop. Wild goose trail is quite of steep so I recommand on hiking... More

We only hiked part of the Chain Lakes Loop, starting at the Bagley Lakes Loop trailhead. We had to cross a bridge or small dam to get to the Chain Lakes Loop on the other side of the Lower Bagley Lake. The Chain Lakes Loop is challenging for weak knees: we got help to cross over rocky places. For all... More

Even in August this was a beautiful drive and well worth the 2 hours to get to there. Highly recommend.

You take the beautiful but slow Highway 542 to Heather Meadows Visitor Center and from there another 3 miles to Artist Point parking area. Then there are many hikes with extreme beauty and vistas! Definitely worth the drive. Take water and food as there are no concessionaires at the top. Also, would wear good hiking shoes as the trails are... More
