Be sure to take time to travel this beautiful highway and to stop at the lookouts to enjoy the beauty. We drove to Loowit lookout to view Mount St Helens without paying Johnson observatory fee. It is incredible to see the power of mother nature.

Make sure you leave time to travel this highway in a leisurely fashion, and spend time stopping en route and at Johnston Ridge. The highway is amazing, and the views spectacular. You haven't seen Mt St Helens unless you've traversed this highway.

This is a rather new highway, often two lanes in each direction which is easy to drive and provides several view points.

On your way to see the volcano, note the scenic views and sites. If you can, take a short hike to get a view of that incredible bridge.

I was expecting a twisty mountain road with lots of 25 mph turns. Instead it is a modern two-lane highway, and I was able to lock it in at 55+ for most of the way. Lovely vistas along the route, but don't bother stopping at...More

The drive to Mt. St. Helens from I-5 takes about an hour UNLESS you stop along the way to admire the various views of the mountain and the Toutle River and the wild flowers that were in bloom in mid-July when we visited. You might...More

After leaving the visitor centre we drove up here towards Mount St Helen's and the observatory. The drive was about 45 miles from our lodging and on the way up there are numerous stops for visitors to view the mountain and the Toutle river valley...More
