The town itself was very cute. I stayed two nights in an airbnb by the marina. The shops were interesting and so were the art galleries. Some shops are not open during the week which was disappointing. I had a nice relaxing time up until I was about to leave. You See, I have 3 small dogs. One is a male dog that likes to leave his mark every where like dogs do.. well, a town worker that waters the hanging flower pots pretty much yelled at me and said.."We don't appreciate you coming here and letting you dog pee on our plants and signs!!" He was very rude. My dog is a senior and he must have peed on one of the potted plants on the sidewalk when I wasn't looking. All I did was apologize and continued on my way but it left a sour, negative note on my nice vacation.

We kept hearing about La Conner from friends. We had some time during a long weekend and went down for a day trip. We did not regret going to this quaint little town. It is very pedestrian and people friendly! We parked for free and strolled around all day checking out the town and shops. The old very well kept houses with plaques telling of their age on them were gorgeous. We finished it off with dinner at a really nice pub. We definitely plan on going back!

A very interesting town to visit and walk around. Lots of shops seemed to be closed on a Tuesday which was too bad.

Very expensive tourist town. You can easily walk it and see everything in an hour or less. Most of The restaurants are mediocre and very expensive as are all of the shops. There are no waterfront parks (green areas), and the Main Street is a parking nightmare. There were drunk, passed out locals passed out right in town and as we walked about some were panhandling on the boardwalk. We also had to avoid ( we had young children with us) a group of locals smoking weed on the boardwalk. You could most likely miss all the undesirables by avoiding the area of town at the end of first and Morris. We did find one jewel of a restaurant, Anelia's Kitchen and Stage. Handmade Polish food, yum!

We strolled around First Street in LaConner - if you go before noon, some shops and restaurants aren't open yet. We must have steped into nearly every boutique and gallery on along the river front. Lots of great artwork and craftsmanship but we just browsed. There's even an art museum with free admission.
My favorite store was "Go Outside" on Morris Street - whimsical, diverse selection of books, kitchen supplies, and toys. The owner explained that it used to be mostly garden supplies because he and his wife loved gardening.
Most of the stores have signs that say "No Public Restrooms" and some are nice enough to post directions to the separate public restroom buildings. There are several restaurants along First Street, so I'm sure those that are open for breakfast would have facilities for their customers.
The only thing that marred our visit was a couple of guys who drove up and set up crude anti-Obama signs on the sidewalk outside a shop. I understand and appreciate free speech and all but the tone of their message was so mean-spirited, our mood was immediately ruined and we felt unwelcome.Their location seemed to be one that they occupy daily - there was something like a planter or trash receptacle that they use to prop up their signs. I suppose every town has one - including our home town - so it shouldn't discourage anyone from visiting this enjoyable section of LaConner.

La Conner is accessible off highway 20 or off exit 221 on I-5, just follow the directions and you will find it.
We were not looking for this town, but were just following the scenic road. There are lots of free parking on the street in the winter time (maybe be not so much in the Summer). It is an older port town with lots of restaurants and shops. We walked around the town on a quiet January 1st day. It is a tourist friendly town and we enjoyed our walk.

La Conner is well worth the stop if visiting in this area. Many cute and quaint little shops. Friendly and helpful people. Farm community. Beautiful fields with the crops labeled. Great place to buy fresh berries and lavender. We ate at the Farm house right off the main drag. The pies are to die for! Never saw such meringue on a pie. Must have been six inches high!
