I have never understood why the Mima Mounds are a tourist thing, but if you are into history, I can see the appeal. But, I have lived here my whole life.

We went to Centralia for a 3 days trip, the lady at the front counter in the hotel recommended this place to us. We searched online and saw some amazing pictures so we decided to go. But it was very disappointing because there are only...More

Conveniently located in Littlerock just south of Olympia, this is among the most fascinating and most difficult to explain of geological formations. It has been said to be the result of giant prehistoric pocket gophers and numerous other phenomena but none is proven. The facility...More

Great place for families with small children. Easy paved hike with interesting facts about native plants throughout . Also has a longer trail option. Generally a quiet place where children can safely explore and experience nature. Highly recommend going in May or June for butterfly...More

This is a unique geological phenomena. Check it over and see if you can decide how they formed. Myself I lean towards either the glacial or earthquake explanation. I may be wrong, but I have considered the diverse opinions.

While the Mima Lumps aren't that exciting to look at, this is a nice open area to get out and have a walk and get a feel for a pacific northwest prairie environment. These mounds stretch over an area of about 15 miles--some of the...More

I went on a day no one was there, so it was very peaceful and relaxing. There are placards and signs with information about the area and it's animals. You can walk to a little "observation deck" and look around or take longer walks on...More

This is an interesting spot to visit; no one is quite sure what these mounds are or how they were created. We came on a hot day and there is almost no shade so be prepared. The smaller loop trail is probably sufficient to get...More

Nice flat walking trails and lots of grasses and wildflowers this time of year. Interpretive signs explain how the mounds might have been formed. It is not a shaded trail, so it's probably best to go when the sun is not so hot. You need...More

We were looking an easy hike/walk and weren't disappointed with this one. This walk took us through a field with hundreds of mounds and it was interesting to read about their formation a short distance into the walk. We saw several deer which was an...More

I'm not sure. Check it out with the Mima Mounds authority to make sure. It would be a great place to let a dog run, but there may be some very sound restrictions for not allowing that. Check to see if pets on leashes are ok... More
