Deer Harbor Charters on Orcas Island was established in 1988 by well known local captain and naturalist Tom Averna, making it the longest operating whale watching company in the San Juan Islands. We are the exclusive whale watch company operating from Rosario Resort and Deer Harbor Marina on Orcas Island. Our boats provide and excellent viewing platform for an experience you will never forget. Our captains and naturalists are island residents and trained at what they do.

By far the hilight of our trip to Orcas Island. Even in off-season, it's clear the team works together in order to best introduce such magnificent creatures. Thank you, Deer Harbor!

A beautiful fall day for whale watching! The captain and naturalist were very knowledgeable and passionate about whale watching! We were not disappointed and followed a whale for sometime. Sea lions were also sighted.

We departed out of Rosario Resort (another remarkable Orcas Island experience): Cptn. Bill and Naturalist Trey were wonderful and informative hosts. We encountered 2 Pods, and we were even treated to a "Spy Hop." Plenty of sea lions, harbor seals and eagle sightings augmented the...More

I went on the boat thinking I would see the whales once or twice but was totally amazed how many times we saw the whales before we returned to shore. The naturalist was knowledgeable and attentive to answering all the group's questions. It was a...More
