We were hoping to be able to ride the train, but it doesn't open until the end of April for the season. Instead, we walked down to the river, and enjoyed the peaceful sounds. We walked around the small town of Cass, and saw the company houses and talked to some of the people who live in the town. They... More

This is a must for all visitors and all parents with children. Kids love trains. The town is quaint and the train is beautiful. Please wear comfortable clothing and take a jacket year round because the mountains can get chilly. Always plan to take a picnic or check ahead of time for available meals.

This is off the beaten path. Won't find it by accident but with help from a good map and will power it's worth finding. Each state has it's own good & bad points but this one is in our top ten to see. We always like the back woods and great outdoors with green country side that this state is... More

My mother in law insisted that we go to this place. Finally my wife and kids agreed and went. This place is truly out in the middle of no where. Make sure you take food with you if your staying over night. The train ride its self was fine and provided some breath taking views

I have stopped here several times. I have visited here as a child and again as an adult. This place is excellent for making memories with your family. Only bad thing was when I was on the train ride I was in an open area and got a coal cinder in my eye. You may want to bring eye drops... More

We try to take a fall trip with our grandson who loves train rides and this year we choose the Cass train. It was a wonderful overall experience starting with shopping at the company store, lunch at the store, looking and getting pictures of the extra train cars they have on site and finally the train ride. We were prepared... More

This is a 2 hour train ride that goes through the woods and stops at Whittaker station. The station has food drinks and ice cream! it feels pretty up there, like the air is fresh and the sky is gorgeous and everything for that one moment seems right. we have ridden 3 trains and this was by far one of... Buying a ticket in advance for the Cass Railroad is easy to do on their website, but it may not be the best idea. We acquired our tickets in advance, but the day we chose to travel was unbelievably foggy. We missed the great views of several counties from the top of the mountain. Once we caught a fleeting glimpse... More

This state park is well-maintained by the State of West Virginia. The food at the diner is relatively good and inexpensive. Wi-Fi coverage is free and ubiquitous.

Wonderful trip, fun for all, beautiful, and historic ride. Ride behind a Shay locomotive into a time long since passed and view the beautiful fall leaves - this is just what we did! The ride was comfortable, the staff knowledgeable, and scenery sublime! I can not imagine a better way to enjoy a vacation, time with family, and the gorgeous... More
