We visited this lovely old theater to watch a performance by "Gentleman's Rule", an a cappella group from Chicago. They were wonderful, the music was amazing and very professionally presented. It was hard to believe that they were not performing with an entire orchestra even in the selection that was not only without accompaniment but also without microphones. The Smoot... More

This old, but revived theater is a gem of the Parkersburg area on 5th Street in downtown. The shows are among the best anywhere and are always presented at a reasonable price. Any musical/theatrical taste will find something to enjoy, from children's shows to touring Broadway shows to big name performers of all types - classical to rock to country/western.... More

The Smoot is an older theater that continues to provide opportunities for live entertainment (music, plays, etc.) for the community. The management takes their responsibility and contribution to this area seriously which makes the acts dependably good and enjoyable. Parkersburg, for a small WV town, has an amazingly attractive theater community.

We visited this theater because my daughter came in 2nd in her age division when she ran the Parkersburg WV half-marathon race and that is where the awards were given out. Its is a restored theater...very impressive and the huge chandelier in there was beautiful. A definite must see if you visit Parkersburg WV.

This grand lady dates back many years to the time of vaudeville . Many traveling vaudeville acts graced the stage of this historic theatre. For many years it was a movie theatre and after many years of showing some of the best first rate movies she was almost torn down but thanks to some many people this grand old lady... More

At my age I've seen Saturday horror flicks and cartoons as a kid of the 50's and musical varities of numerous levels of performances live for the last dozen years since the theatre was fully restored largely due to the efforts of one local performer and leader. Really accurate restoration of this early mid 20th century theatre. Quite nicely done... More

The productions available at the Smoot Theater are a very pleasant surprise for not so big a town as Parkersburg. It is "Up Town" entertainment, not New York, but a very pleasant surprise and whole lot easier to visit than New York!
