We were here in mid-July on our multi-day trek on the Alta Via 1, and I couldn’t have been more giddy with the surroundings: forests bursting with blooming rhododendron, alpine tundra that rolled with greenery and wildflowers, limestone rock jutting out of clear, burbling streams, jagged mountains thrusting ominously into the big blue skies, and late afternoon thunderstorms with dark... Cycled from San Vigilio to Fanes. The first part is fairly easy, a steady climb to Pederù through beautiful forests. Then there is a fairly steep climb, where you can stop once in a while to enjoy the spectacular views! At the top, there is a few minutes reprieve and then the climb continues up to Rifuigio Fanes 2050mts. From here... More

We hiked for 3 hours to fanes from sciare. We took the bus from la villa (7 minutes) to sciare to start the hike. This was a moderate challenging hike especially for the first 1,5 hours where you climb up for almost 900 m, the last 300m being very steep. Trekking poles recommended to ease the ascend and the descend.... More

The scenery was good, after a steep walk up from Pereru. The flowers were out in June. There were lodges available to eat or stay in. Several trails or paths to choose from.

Beautiful hiking above timberline. Vast meadows with lovely wildflowers even in September though steep and very rocky.

Uncontaminated nature, a transparent river, tall pine trees and a stunningly clean lake at the top of the mountain. The hike is about 5 kilometres to the top from Rifugio Pederu'. Make sure you are in good shape as there are steep areas but not too extreme: we went with our kid and it was fine. Bring some water and... More

We hiked through as part of the via alta1 trail and were just in love with the scenery. It's simply a beautiful part of the world.

Beautiful day and not too busy. If you have young children, there is a lot for them to do at the top. There is also a new museum, which I didn't go inside.

I have been hiking in Fanes Valley since I was a kid. Ever since I hiked in many other places in the world: the whole Alps range, the Appennines, Kashmir-Karakoram, Caucasus, central Hindu Kush, and many other mountain places. Alpe di Fanes is to me the mountain's sightseeing closest to perfection. Its shape first of all: it is like a... More

THis was stunning. At the advice of our hotel (Hotel Corona, St. Vigilio) we hikes up here towards Refugio Fanes. It was stunning. Well marked route. Both for mountain bikers and hikers. That may seem like a distraction but it was fun to watch the cyclists as well. The higher we got, the more majestic the scenery unfolded. Refugios for... More
