Nearly level hiking through wilderness bog-like forest having lots of flowers and mushrooms. You have to backpack in to the only campsites, but you get a waterfront which in a few cases has a sandy beach (near Sand Bay). Lake Michigan is not as cold as Lake Superior, but it is pretty chilly until August. You need to make reservations... More

This was a very scenic hike. Lots of colors. But beware parts of the trail is rough and most of the trail is unmarked.

This is a pretty place to visit, and the woods walking trail has been pretty water views along the way. The only thing I didn't like was how dirty the water was - it smelled a little at first. It does get cleaner the further one walks from the initial trail point. I recommend parking in Lot 3 and walking... More

found just by driving back roads on beautiful fall day. We visit Door County every fall and try to find new places. Hiking trails at Newport were beautiful. Too bad camping is just the hike-in type, old folks like me need car camping! (we camp at Peninsula State Park, also beautiful!)

If you want to get away from crowds & noise, this is a great place. It is quite rugged though. All paths are dirt. Some are narrow & have large rocks & tree roots to navigate. Some are wider & smoother. You do have to watch were you are going. It's a large park. We walked over five miles &... More

This is a beautiful hike. Takes only about 90 minutes. Lots of varied landscape, water views and wildflowers.

We came to walk our dog here. Though dogs are not allowed on the main portion of the beach, you can take them on the beach area just a few yards away near parking lot 3. I found this a nice alternative to Whitefish Dunes dog beach. Newport stands in a class by itself among other state parks. It is... More

We spend three nights camping on site 3. It was our first experience with a hike in site and I enjoyed the 1.5 mile hike away from everything. I loved hearing the waves crashing day and night. Lake access was a little misleading as the path to the water was very overgrown and difficult to get close to the water.... More

We just spent Labor Day weekend at Newport State Park. We were in the Sites 1-2 , G - this is a group campsite. We had two picnic tables, a fire ring with a grate, benches, and our own pit toliet with 4 walls and a roof. The parking lot was not terribly far away, yet we felt secluded and... More
