This park is not overly used, which means that you often will have the place mostly to yourself. It is full of relaxing walks that are not strenuous. The park goes through woods, along a lake, and through prairie grasses, so you get a decent amount of variety. Overlooking the lake is a nice area for a picnic... a couple... More

Wonderful place for a gathering. We do it at least once a year, especially in the fall. It has everything one needs for a great picnic/party.

This off-the-beaten-path park is home to a wildflower prairie, a forested woodland and lake and marshland. The combination of these environments creates a wonderful diversity of nature for anyone who visits. As you enter the park there is a huge prairie of wildflowers bordering the road. The first thing you will notice...or rather hear...are the song birds. Blue birds and... More

We had seen the signs for Dorothy Carnes County Park for years, so we finally decided to check it out. It is a beautiful park! There is a lovely and spacious pavilion adjacent to the parking lot. There are also nice restroom facilities adjacent to the parking lot, as well. There is a fantastic observation deck overlooking Rose Lake. Lots... More

Just a few miles out of town and so peaceful. Almost certain to see something new and beautiful with every visit, including during winter months. Listen and look for the barred owls. White pelican stop in the spring. If you visit during summer or fall on Saturdays you are likely to see wedding parties, with the beauty of the brides... More

A real gem. Nice park setting, very secluded, gorgeous trails winter and summer. There is a fantastic shelter by the parking lot, which is easily handicap accessible. It can be rented for a group gathering. Lots of wildlife on Rose Lake and the trails.

Our first time here was at dusk and it was so peaceful, beautiful, and perfect for pictures of wildlife and foliage. Want to explore the other side as it was so pretty.

A short drive west of Fort Atkinson, this park has more than one access point. The easiest is to drive west on highway 12-18 and watch for the sign, and turn right, and follow the road until you see the road. From hardwoods to prairie to lake, several different environments are offered, so if you are a birder, bring your... More
