Stopped in at about 10-ish on a Sat night. Full but not crazy crowded. Very cool place with amazing artwork and cool bench seating, neat bar, good music, and of course an amazing craft beer selection on tap. Very surprised to see the negative reviews online bc our experience was totally a positive one. We'll be back...

Sugar Maple is an interesting bar in the Bay View neighborhood. American craft beer is their claim to fame (right on their sign), and they had 62 on tap the night we visited. Judging by the bottles behind the bar, they can also make mixed drinks or pour you a shot. We didn't because...beer. Interesting decor, not overly noisy, knowledgeable... More

A beautiful bar, where the walls are covered in ever-changing paintings by the owner. The beer selection is great, and they always have some good pear and apple ciders and very good wines by the glass. We go for the jazz shows, which are always fantastic and inexpensive to get into.

Came in with a large group (20+) during the day. All of us were 30+ and not loud or rowdy at all. When one person in our party asked for a drink instead of a beer, the bartender was very put off and rude. Didn't now how to make it (probably only can pour drafts). When we asked for something... I love this place. Being from Chicago, I don't get there all that often, but sometimes make a special trip, just so I can hang at the SM. The jazz festival they host there, and at their sister bar, the Palm, is incredible! How do they get such name acts to perform in Milwaukee?? Some don't ever even get to... More

I have a love/hate relationship with Sugar Maple. On a dead weekday I can grab a seat at the bar, relax, get good service and be happy with my visit. Once it gets crowded though, I'd rather be somewhere else. As others have said, the owners can be downright nasty and have irked me enough that I don't come here... More

I seldom give a 1-star review. I feel that doing so requires some explanation, which I will attempt to give here. In a way it pains me to do so. I was going to The Palm (Sugar Maple's sister bar) before Sugar Maple existed. Back when I was going to bars a bit more often, I often frequented Sugar Maple... More

Lighten up Francis. But seriously, we had the same experience as others and won't go back. It's too bad, they have a great selection of beer and the bartenders are great.

I believe I speak of the same man that everyone else commented on because my group of 10 was approached by him when trying to re-arrange tables. He called our group names before we even ordered our beer. The bar tenders were nice but it was this "manager" / bar back / guy with no teeth that would refuse to... More

Seems like a lot of people with bad service reviews, but we didn't experience any problems at all. Stopped in on a Saturday evening as it was just getting dark. We enjoyed a delicious craft beer recommended to us by the bartender, then went merrily on our way. I've uploaded a photo of the interior to the 'visitor photos' section... More
