My son plans on majoring in architecture next year so when I found this area on TA, I knew we had to spend some time walking around. The houses were nicely renovated with attention paid to keeping the history in tact. If you have some time, go stroll around.

This is an interesting neighborhood near the Pabst Mansion / remnants of grander times in MKE when Wisconsin Ave was the place to live. *2 of the 3 previous reviews do not belong under this heading however. After a Sunday church service (we don't have a student at CUW, just attended services when in town visiting) we did the steps and running/walking trails on the hill leading to Lake Michigan. Spectacular view and exercise opportunity. Quiet, serene location.

Beautiful area on campus that allows access to the lake - down 220 steps which people often run up for exercise. However, there is a wonderful from up top as well as a switch back path for a less energetic walk to the shore.

The best way to see these homes is during the annual Father's Day weekend home tour. If you can't, then a walk down State street in Milwaukee will give you a taste of what the homes were like in the late 1800s, and early 1900s when the wealthy had large homes, large yards, and lumber was plentiful.
