Fort Fetterman was a significant supply fort during the Indian Wars. It was the staging area for Gen. Crook for the 1876 campaign against he Souix. He, of course, ran into difficulty at Rosebud and was unable to meet his mission quite possibly contributing to the Custer debacle. That aside, the fort is an interesting site. One can readily understand why... More

There isn't much there any more but it is very interesting if you like western American History. General Crook left Ft Fetterman in the spring of 1876 leading one of three columns to triangulate on and locate the Indians to take them back to the reservation. He met with the same Indians of the Battle of the Little Big Horn... More

Fort Fetterman was an important fort involved in the history of the Bozeman Trail and the development of state of Wyoming. Portugee Phillips, Malcolm Campbell Sheriff, etc lived in and around the Fort.

The city of Douglas was here. When they built the railroad, people move somewhere else, and use the wood from the old houses to build the new ones.

This is a site for visitors who are not on a tight time schedule....its seven miles west of Highway 59, near the intersection with I-25. There is no food and beverage in the vicinity. Only two buildings, the cemetery, the parade ground and a lot of foundations remain. This does not sound like much, but this is a site that... More

Very little remains standing of the old fort. No interpretive interaction. Closes after Labor day. Not much to view and not much literature.

Since it was closed when we were there I can only judge the outside of the buildings. Would have loved to see the museum but it will have to wait for the next visit.

A little drive outside of Douglas but the scenery is well worth it. So much history here. Only 2 buildings still stand but the curator at the Fort gives you lots of info about how the fort functioned. A must for folks who love western history.

The officers quarters was very well preserved and had a lot of artifacts and history. The trail around the area was easy to travel and you had a beautiful view of the river. The ordinance building had a lot of well preserved artifacts as well but they did seem to have a pest problem.
