Perfect beach for relaxing, not for surfing. Would be great for little kids. We stopped after a long hike and rested and relaxed in the sun. Such a great beach. I would definitely recommend it!

We live locally and use to visit Spenser all the time. Too many tents now, water is not as clear as beach 69, Hapuna or Mauna Kea. Overall there are better beaches. If you have very small children generally there are not many waves here...More

After visiting the historical site we came down t this area by coincidence. They have a huge Tamarind tree in the middle of the beach and also other chances to have some shadow. The water was perfect. It was mixing warm water with colder water...More

Nice little family beach right next to Pu'ukohola Heiau. After you check out the Heiau, go over to the beach to cool down. Very relaxed - lots of families having picnics. Good shower facilities and changing room too.

There are more beautiful beaches than Spencer Beach Park in Hawaii. If you are looking for a beach with a "local" feel, this is your place. It is safe. There is a lifeguard on duty. The swimming area is naturally enclosed so does not have...More

We had read great reviews of this small, quiet beach. It was nice for our family of five, with shade enough for my sun - avoiding husband. Stay in the shallows, where the bottom is sandy. Where the water looks dark, it's rocky, and the...More

The water is conducive for young children to swim. No strong hinder currents and easy to get to No climbing necessary to set up for panic and camping.

Don't know for sure. If the rocks are light in weight and shiny-black, they're lava. Heavy black rocks may not be or may be lava based.
