Nice snorkeling for beginners (with turtles)

Nice, small beach with a possibility for shade, if you come early and not all yet taken. The parking lot is also not very big, so come early. Easy to snorkel for beginners and... read more

Nice, small beach with a possibility for shade, if you come early and not all yet taken. The parking lot is also not very big, so come early. Easy to snorkel for beginners and you can see different fish almost right away when entering the water. We also saw some sea turtles swimming. During the low tide there is a... More

This is Lahalu'u Beach Park with easy everything. A pleasure to soak up the sun, sea, air and swim with colorful fish and turtles. Enjoy!

We visited here yesterday. The water was nice the waves were calm on the south half of the bay and surfable on the north half. We snorkelled with small kids and had a great time. We saw lots of fish and several turtles swimming just off shore. Getting in and out of the water can be a bit treacherous due... More

This is a small beach that often gets over looked. If you want to swim with sea turtles at no cost and just walking in from the shore, go to Kahaluu Beach. It is off of Alii Drive and a couple of miles up the road from downtown Kona. We have been to the island three different years-time of year,... More

Beach is okay, but the snorkeling is amazing. You can rent gear right there if you didn't bring any. The beach is well protected from the larger waves. Lots of coral and rock that attract all types of tropical wildlife. The beach is mostly under 10-15 feet in depth, lots of water under 5 feet. The water is pretty clear... More

I like this beach, but it is crowded. The snorkeling is okay and good for beginners. There are often turtles here. The coral has been loved to death but there is a fair amount of fish to be seen. Plenty of parking.

If you're looking for somewhere to snorkel, I'd recommend you look elsewhere. A number of factors make this a less than ideal spot: it's very rocky, making getting in and out of the water tricky. The current is also very strong. There's also not a huge amount of marine life. The beach itself is small and gets crowded. The parking... More

Good free spot for some decent snorkeling would recommend going early before the crowds. Parking is a bit limited.

Great place to visit! Sea Turtles napping on the beach, beautiful black sand, decent accommodations, and (best of all) free! Right off the main highway from Kona to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Well worth a detour.

Great snorkeling anytime. Even in wintertime ...as always in Hawaii check tide report ahead of time and check currents before entering water. Lots of fish here to see and turtles. Also lots of people entering and exiting water so take your time getting in and out.
