If you like geology you might enjoy the fine olivine sand here. It's about 2.2 shadeless miles over rough and potentially muddy terrain. Wear sturdy shoes. Pretty trail along the sea. Plenty of plastic trash washed ashore. The locals offer rides for cash. I did...More

I would not get in a truck that does not have a sign on the side. The trucks withouts signs took our camera. When we discovered it missing and returned they denied seeing it. We placed it on the table while buying a drink from...More

Beautiful beach. Even if it wasn't so unique with its green color, it'd still be impressive. It's situated at the bottom of dramatic sheer cliffs. Be sure to walk over to the left at the top to get a great view of the beach, after...More

Using my garmin we clocked it at 2.6 miles one way. Water is essential, a good pair of keens will suffice for walking. There is zero shade on the hike and at the beach. Anyone who has difficulties walking down or up steep hills, should...More

Just back from what may have been our best day on the big Island. Drove our rental Jeep into green sands beach. The numerous trails were fun to maneuver and navigate. No need to hire a local to drive you in if you have a...More

We came here a couple weeks ago during our first trip to the Big Island. The hike is about 2.5-3 miles each way. Not a difficult hike. There are "shuttles" you can take up or down but we wanted to don the hike. The sand...More

Easy hike for all ages (4km or 1h one way), beautiful place with amazingly intriguing green sand ! Swimming was also great with some awesome waves. Some people choose to use shuttle services, but I find the hike is 10 times worth it ! Highly...More

This is one of the most gorgeous beaches you will see. The trail leading is also very nice but it also very long hike. We took the local “taxi” driver which was one of the trip highlights as well. It about 40 min drive ,...More

One of the most amazing places on the planet! Worth the drive, worth the hike out (hike don't take the ride unless you can't walk that far). Everyone should bring a small trash bag and take some out with you upon exiting! The green sand...More
