While on the Big Island of Hawaii, make sure you take a trip to South Point to not only see the southern most point of all the US but to jump off the cliffs into the clear water below. The jump is about 50 feet...More

We got there kind of late in the day so we hired the truck driver ($15 round trip) and it was such a fun and bumpy ride. But when we got there it was worth every penny. The beach, the rocks around it, the colors,...More

Over and over we all shared how glad we were that we did not skip this hard-to-get-to spot! After reading other reviews we decided to park our 4WD and walk in, and I am glad we did. I'm glad we walked in because it was...More

I have been to a lot of beaches, but this one is absolutely breathtaking! You cannot visit the big island of Hawaii and not make time to see this one!! Few things to keep in mind though: 1) Unless you want to hike the 3...More

The hike to the green sand beach is hot and dry but we enjoyed it. Some locals are set up to drive you to the beach if you would like; I heard them asking $15 each, for I guess a round trip ride. We decided...More

When will you be able to say you were at the Southern most point of the US again?? Go do it. The road is paved up to the cliffs/southern point. Parking is in sand/grass/rocks and little bumpy but not bad for any vehicle. You can...More

Great spot for photos. Good shoes are recommended. Flip flops or open toe shoes are not a good idea if you want to walk around the area. Lava rock can be sharp.

Driving the Big Island, we drove south to the most Southern Point in The United State. Since we driving the Big Island, it was worth noting where we were.

Great getaway spot for a picnic. Waves were amazing here and even had phone reception for a quick upload.

Visiting this area is a two-for-one adventure. It's not easy, though. Getting to that part of the island is somewhat easy. Getting to the "southernmost point" in the 50 U.S. States OR to the Green Sand Beach requires more. To get to South Point or...More

They will approach you on the parking area. I think the hike itself added to the experience though and I wouldn't pay for the ride personally. I would suggest being sunscreens up as it's very windy and you don't realize... More

I wouldn't cliff jump unless you have snorkeld the water to check for depth or rock spires. And don't swim these waters without lifeguard present....several people drown per day in Hawaii....and good swimmers too... More
Are the "locals" just waiting at the entrance to give the rides to the South Point, and do they wait for us for the ride back? Do they tell you what they charge? We are over 70 and just want picture of the South Point and maybe to walk on the green sand beach. Thanks

Yes, locals are there waiting when you drive in. We paid $15 per person. Ask them to be in the cab, otherwise you're in the box of the truck. It's very windy out there, wear close toed shoes too. Enjoy!!
