The south point is a fair drive from the major tourist centers on the Big Island, so you really need to dedicate most of the day to seeing these places. After a long road heading south from the highway you come to a parking lot....More

Cliff Diving, Awesome! Even if you're not going to dive yourself, go watch the others. Also, this is the Southern most point in the USA. You can drive right to it, there is a clay parking lot or park alongside the road. Must Do.

My husband (70yr) and I (68) leisurely hiked down close to ocean along coves and inlets. It was hot, windy, and very dusty! It was a long hike, but we opted to hike for the challenge and exercise!!!! There was GREEN sand all along the...More

It takes about 12 miles off the main road to reach South Point but don't be discouraged. The road gets a little narrow but it is paved and there is plenty of off road parking. The views are stunning! You will probably see a few...More

I am writing this review because I wish I had known that you don't have to pay the 20 dollars pp for the shuttle if you have four wheel drive. We were misled by the local there who told us the only way to get...More

This beach is well worth the walk in. You will need to park at a parking lot that looks like a shantytown. Be sure to lock your car!!! If you decide to drive to the beach you will need a jeep or 4x4 to access....More

First, you can travel by 2 wheel drive car to South Point. From there you go just a little bit to the parking lot to either: take the long, hard, hot trail to the Green Sand Beach, or take a "shuttle" there. We were there...More

At high tide the majority of the beach is under water and the remainder is wet and therefore quite dark - so not green. Pretty steep descent with no beach to land on really. It's certainly doable and worth going, but try to time the...More

The drive getting down to the end of the road is crazy. One lane road most of the way down. Drive slow and let the locals go around you, be courteous to them. The view is spectacular except for the nasty looking outhouses that I...More

This is for the adventurous older kids in your family who are good swimmers. The cliff is 40-50 ft high. Once you jump you can climb up the ladder or if older like me and not as strong, I swam a small distance to the...More

They will approach you on the parking area. I think the hike itself added to the experience though and I wouldn't pay for the ride personally. I would suggest being sunscreens up as it's very windy and you don't realize... More

I wouldn't cliff jump unless you have snorkeld the water to check for depth or rock spires. And don't swim these waters without lifeguard present....several people drown per day in Hawaii....and good swimmers too... More

Yes, locals are there waiting when you drive in. We paid $15 per person. Ask them to be in the cab, otherwise you're in the box of the truck. It's very windy out there, wear close toed shoes too. Enjoy!!
